"I didn't come this far to only come this far" I've taught a lot people, a bunch of stuff... I was a karate instructor for many years, I've taught outdoor painting, abstract painting, non-objective painting and currently I teach jewelry making. Lately, a ritual has appeared when teaching a new student or group of students jewelry making. We all stand up and I ask them to rub their stomach and pat their head. First the right hand on the head, then the left. We do this a couple of times, and it quickly shows dexterity, dominant hand and coordination. Do...

"You know you're getting old when the candles cost more than the cake" I'll explain this quote in a bit...Winter has come to Northern California. I have only a few more markets in the North Bay and then I"ll be flying south for the winter.  Today is Thanksgiving, and I really think for what ever we are thankful for, it should overflow to those who are much less fortunate than we are. I'm not sharing these miraculous tidbits of lucid vision, slightly seasoned and covered with a thin layer of delectable, "can't wait to get out of bed and get...

Making Little Sense Since 1956...

"Be unpredictable, be real, be interesting. Tell a good story." Once sitting around a campfire in Wild Rivers New Mexico, my friend/painting mentor John Wenger said, don't make paintings make too much sense. That was a sharp stick in the eye moment for me...something that really has been an integral part of the "Making" process for me, whether it is painting or making jewelry. Something about driving on a full moon night through the desert with the headlights off that makes just enough sense for me...  Since I've been using vintage silver plated trays to make jewelry, I've found many of them are awards...
